TourneyLuck and HoldemLuck: Hot or Not?

Are we running hot or not?  From time to time, we all want to know the answer to that question.  When we are losing, it’s easy to say that we are just running bad and chalk up our losses to variance, but what if you are running well above expectations?  What if we are winning more coin flips than we're losing? If that is the case, we obviously have some work to do on our game.  A few weeks back, we featured an AutoHotKey (AHK) script called “Wolfkin’s AHK Script” that calculated your EV in all-in situations.  The script goes through your PokerTracker database and displays your EV results graphically.  We could then tell very quickly if we were running well.

The only problem is that setting up the script required several steps and could very easily scare players away from attempting to use it.  However, I think we would all like to know if we are running above or below expectations in our all-in situations, so we went on the prowl for an easier solution.  The good news is that we found a program that requires virtually zero customization or setup.

There are two components to this great software package.  TourneyLuck is a program designed to give you tournament EV results.  HoldemLuck is a program designed to give you cash game EV results.  These programs are free, open source tools that simply search through your PokerTracker database for hands where there is an all-in situation.  It will then give you a list of every hand found and display the results graphically.  The green line is your expected value and the blue line is your actual value on the graph display. This is what a list of hands looks like:

Here is how you get started using these programs:

1) Download a copy from http://rapidshare.com/files/207718178/HoldemLuck-v0.14.zip
2) Right click and extract the files from the .zip file to your preferred location
3) Double click the application icons to run the programs

It doesn’t get any easier than this.  TourneyLuck and HoldemLuck work straight out of the box, so if you can download a file and double click, then you can use these programs!

Another advantage over the AHK script we mentioned is that there are several custom filters that you can use with both programs.  For example, if you want to know your EV just for today, this year, or this month, all you have to do is click on the appropriate filter button at the top of the screen and the graph will change to reflect your customized request.  Also, you can filter your EV calculations for a specific site, buy-in level, and/or table type.  The custom filters set this application apart from the others:

We can move our game in the right direction by finding leaks. It’s tough for us to admit faults if we don't have concrete evidence.  TourneyLuck and HoldemLuck can prove that maybe we aren’t running as bad as we thought; maybe we just need to work on our game.

Give these programs a shot.  They are free to use and ready “out of the box.”  You have nothing to lose and only EV to gain!  As always, if you have questions, problems, or any other concerns, please make a post in the AHK Forum and we will be there to help.
