Sample High-Stakes Omaha HUD

Since Holdem Manager released its Omaha add-on, many casual Texas Hold'em players are purchasing the upgrade so that they can check out the action-centric game that industry experts believe is the future of poker.  Installation of the Omaha upgrade is extremely easy. Once the casual player is armed with the best tools in the industry for tracking and analysis in Omaha Manager, they can turn to the same Heads-Up Display (HUD) that they rely on for Hold'em games to give them key information on opponents' tendencies.

Although little has been done in the way of analyzing what stats and ranges are appropriate for particular types of play in Omaha (in contrast to the over-analysis done for Hold'em games), PokerSoftware.com turned to two high-stakes Omaha aficionados and asked, “What’s in your HUD?”

The first HUD we'll look at is one posted by well-known and respected Omaha grinder DJ Sensei.  Let's take a look at what has to be one of the most detailed HUDs around:

Total Hands / VPIP / PFR / NetWon / BB100
Went To Showdown / Won at Showdown / Cold Call
Attempt to Steal / Fold SB to Steal / Fold BB to Steal
Aggression Frequency at Flop / Flop Aggression / Check Raise Flop / Fold to Flop Bet
Aggression Frequency at Turn / Turn Aggression / Check Raise Turn / Fold to Turn Bet
Aggression Frequency at River / River Aggression / Check Raise River / Fold to River Bet
Aggression Frequency Total / Total Aggression

The thing here to notice is the obvious attention to detail of each and every street.  As Omaha is a game of draws and pot odds, high-stakes players will have to know how a player will alter their game from street to street.  Oftentimes, it's discussed in the forums specific to Omaha strategy how a player will be prepared to play one street, but then give up or start to act passively.  Although this HUD would look nothing short of behemoth with seven rows of statistics on each player, it should fit just fine in any decently sized game window.

DJ Sensei was asked what the logic was behind having continuation bet stats in an HUD. He responded that you would want these stats in your HUD because if you knew frequencies of cbets, you could potentially adjust your strategy in marginal situations.  He warned, however, that this type of assumption and adjustment in strategy should not be done until a good sample size of the player's hands was imported into the database.

Another high-stakes Omaha player, MichaelSC, is the author of popular Omaha videos on Deuces Cracked.  Unfortunately, during the two videos we watched, he did not discuss the specifics of his HUD.  Consequently, we never learned what one line of his HUD meant, although we can take a look at it anyway:

Stats he has in his HUD are:

VPIP | PFR
AF | Hands
??? | ???
Check Raise Flop | Fold to Flop Bet

MichaelSC himself has gone on record as saying, "Also a great stat in PLO that most people don't even add to their HUD is check/raise percent on flop."

Omaha players are highly encouraged to check out Omaha Manager, the latest and greatest innovation for competitors in this genre of poker.
