One of the most popular forms of tournament play on PokerStars is the Double or Nothing format, which is a type of Sit and Go.  In a Double or Nothing Sit and Go, 50% of the field will win double their buy-in.  For example, in a $20+$2 tournament with ten players, the top five will win $40, while those who finished in sixth through tenth get nothing.

The tournament automatically ends as soon as half of the players are eliminated, with all players “tying” for first place.  For that reason, it is PokerStars’ policy to not include Double or Nothing results in any tournament leaderboard points system.  Double or Nothing tournaments can be found within the PokerStars lobby under “Sit and Go” and “1 Table.”

These tournaments are extremely popular among micro-stakes grinders trying to find an easy and nearly variance-free way of building up their bankroll.  However, tracking their results and stats remains an important part of the self-improvement process.  Enter PokerTracker 3, one the highest rated programs in the history of PokerSoftware.com.  PokerTracker is a fully featured hand history and stats tool that comes armed with all of the bells and whistles necessary to dominate at the tables.  The team behind PokerTracker releases updates regularly that can be downloaded and installed by all registered users of the product for free.

On July 21st, PokerTracker released Version 3.07.02 Beta, which gave tournament players one of the coolest features they could ever have hoped for in Smart Tournament Detection.  This feature will analyze your tournaments and automatically determine what type they are, what the buy-ins are, and what your winnings are.

In addition to the automatic detections, PokerTracker has expanded how tournaments are classified.  Users are no longer restricted to a small number of descriptions.  Instead, any number of flags and descriptors are available to classify tournaments in detail.

In many cases now, tournament summary requests will no longer be necessary unless detailed results data on opponents is required.  There are new tournament fields present in the tournament filters dialog: Flags, Tables, Seats, and Speed.  This allows users to sift through different types of tournaments with greater exactness.  Similar fields are present in the hand export and purge dialog boxes.

The team at PokerTracker has stated that auto-detection is a process that will continually be improved.  For some sites and tournament types, the process will be very accurate and detection rules will be updated automatically every time you start the program.  The auto-detection process happens upon completion of or elimination from a tournament.  To enable this new vital feature, make sure that the “Tournament Detection” checkbox is checked in the Auto Import tab.

You can also invoke auto-detection manually for existing tournaments through the “Auto Detect” button from the Tournament Results dialog box.  From there, the program will let you select to “Save Detected Finish and Amount Won,” “Protect Filled Table Type,” and “Save Detected Table Type” from the auto-detect window.

As posted in our own forums here at PokerSoftware.com, for players who want to track their winnings in Double or Nothing Tournaments on PokerStars using PokerTracker 3, simply upgrade to the latest Beta edition from the PokerTracker website.  The program will then be able to automatically detect your place of finish and winnings from Double or Nothing Sit and Gos.
