If you’re looking for a slick home game clock, then check out a new one introduced by PokerStars, the world’s largest online poker site. This free piece of poker software, according to its website, “stores your favorite game and tournament setups, player profiles, tracks player eliminations, blinds, and displays key game information such as final prize structures and antes – and much more.”
The PokerStars Clock features several pre-stored home game formats so that you don’t have to reinvent the wheel and create a brand new structure each time if you don’t want to. Alternately, you can specify the number of players, blind levels and lengths, payouts, and other key features to create the perfect home game for you and your friends.
It’s simple to save your favorite structure so you can use it each week, although the number of players and payouts could vary depending on attendance.
Nevertheless, if you have a recurring game and the same group of players, the PokerStars Clock seems like a winner.
What separates the PokerStars Clock from the rest of the pack is the inclusion of poker rules to govern your game. They come in a handy app and can be a lifesaver should any sticky situations come up. Remember, PokerStars is the largest online poker site in the world and, as such, has plenty of experience handling player issues and revising and refining its set of rules.
The home screen of the PokerStars Clock features four options: “Quick Start,” “My Tournaments,” “Settings,” and “More.” On the “Quick Start” screen, you’ll see “Fast,” “Medium,” and “Slow” tabs, which will allow you to change components like the number of players, starting blinds, duration, and game type:
A few players have submitted reviews on the PokerStars Tournament Clock’s website, with one user relaying, “It's free, does the job, and is pretty slick. I particularly like the fact that the app will buzz when the blind levels increase, so you don't even have to be looking back at the screen all the time.” Another user of the free poker software added, “Nice, simple, and clean tournament clock. Well played, PokerStars.”
The program was officially unveiled on July 26th and its download runs 8.4 MB in size. Just like the traditional PokerStars client, the clock is available in a variety of languages: English, Bokmal, Norwegian, Danish, Dutch, Estonian, Finnish, French, German, Italian, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Russian, Spanish, Swedish, and Ukrainian. Rational Intellectual Holdings Limited developed it:
The clock is available for the iPod Touch, iPhone, and iPad and requires iOS 4.0 or later in order to operate.
Tournament clocks allow newbies to the live poker world to create their very own home games that are tailored to their needs. This author prefers to have each player begin with about 100 big blinds and for levels to stretch for about a half-hour each. We always end up holding home games during a sporting event, which typically leads to players’ attentions being diverted, hence the need for slightly longer blind levels.
Overall, the PokerStars clock has attracted seven ratings from users and averages 4.5 stars out of five. Check it out for yourself by visiting the PokerStars Tournament Clock website. Also, view all of the live poker tournament clocks we’ve reviewed here on PokerSoftware.com.
