Behind the Scenes of iHoldem Indicator

Ever thought about what goes into creating a new poker software package?  We had a little chat with the brains behind Hold’em Indicator, Tournament Indicator, Omaha Indicator, and Stud Indicator, John, about his thoughts concerning the creation of a new OS X poker odds calculator and HUD, iHoldem Indicator.

PokerSoftware: What made you decide to create iHoldem Indicator?

John: There are quite a few Windows poker calculators for online poker.  However, there was no real-time poker calculator for Mac OS X for online poker sites.

We think it's an opportunity for us to expand our products to the Mac OS X.  iHoldem Indicator is the first real-time poker calculator for online poker in this market.

PokerSoftware: How long was iHoldem Indicator in the works and what was involved in its development?

John: It took two programmers more than one year to develop iHoldem Indicator.  In the world of Mac OS, almost every technical detail is different than what we used for Windows.  We have to do the research and development from scratch.  And as you may understand, there's not much we can learn from the internet or books.

PokerSoftware: Do you plan to create any other versions for Mac users?  Will there be a Stud or Omaha Indicator for Mac poker players?

John: We'll develop iOmaha Indicator soon.  For Stud games, we haven't made our decision yet.

PokerSoftware: It appears that iHoldem Indicator takes the best from Hold’em Indicator and Tournament Indicator.  Why were these combined in iHoldem Indicator?

John: I think it makes more sense to combine Holdem Indicator and Tournament Indicator.  We developed Holdem Indicator first.  One year later, we got the idea to develop a tool for tournament games.  We would have developed a single product if we had the idea earlier like we did for iHoldem Indicator.

PokerSoftware: Is there another version of Indicator in development for PC players?

John: We currently don't have any big project for PC software development except the daily software maintenance and making new patches.

PokerSoftware: When a poker site makes a change in its software, does this affect any of your products?

John: We tried our best make our software as flexible as possible so we don't have to change it for every software update of a poker site.  However, sometimes we have to make a new patch if the poker site update makes our software incompatible.  Sometimes it may take us a few days or a few hours to make a new patch.

PokerSoftware: What do you feel are the biggest advantages to using any of your products?  Do you feel your poker odds calculator is good for a specific type of player or do you feel every type of player has something to gain from them?

John: Our products are easy to use and easy to understand.  Our software is stable and no complicated configuration is needed.  I think our products are good for any type of poker player, but I think they are more beneficial to beginner and intermediate players.

PokerSoftware: What made you decide to price your software at one lump sum cost unlike many of your competitors, which have a subscription-based plan?

John: We thought it would cost our customers less in the long-run.
