Tournament Poker Edge Featuring Video Series from theginger45

We recently checked in with Tournament Poker Edge to find out what's new and exciting at the training site.  In addition to many new videos, podcasts, and articles, we found out there is an exciting video series from Matthew "theginger45" Hunt entitled "TPE Theory: Shortstack Playx8

This video series is on a topic that should be something every tournament and sit and go player would be interested in.  Inevitably at some point in just about every poker tournament, players will find themselves with a short stack.  The understanding of knowing when to 3-bet, flat, shove, call, or fold in these short-stacked situations could be the difference between being a big winner or treading water or losing money.

Hunt told us that sometimes there is more than one option to consider: "The purpose of the video series is to get poker players to learn that it's less a case of 'I have hand X, is it strong enough to shove?' and more a case of 'What are my options here, and with what frequency can I take each option?'"

There are many push-fold charts out there to help give you a general guide of how you should play a certain hand with certain effective stats with everything else in a vacuum.  If you search for "Jennifear Push/Fold Chart," you will find my favorite one.

While these charts are great for a quick guide, you will see in Hunt's video series that they are not as accurate as they can be when you start assigning opponent ranges.  This is where third-party software can help take you to the next level.

Hunt goes through exactly how to use HoldemResources Calculator when reviewing hands to see what ranges certain moves make sense in.  In the first video of the six-part video series, Hunt focuses on situations where he has ten big blinds or less in blind versus blind situations.  He then compares these ranges to ranges the software recommends to shove from earlier position.

This is certainly helpful not only to learn how to use third party software to help analyze your game, but you can also get into the mind of one of poker best teachers on how he uses these tools until knowledge in just about every short-stack situation is second nature.

The second part of the video series is really where you can feel like you're inside the mind of Hunt.  Here, he discusses the same types of situations, but discusses how he can best take advantage of certain situations based off certain reads he may have on his opponents.

This analysis is amazing and something that every poker player who wants to take their game to the next level should do.  Even without checking out this video, you can get an idea of how great Hunt's analysis is by checking out his posts and threads on the PocketFives forum where he is currently one of the top advisers.

Even if you think you know how to play a short-stack, you should still check out this video series.  Hunt told us, "I'd describe the video series as an attempt at hopefully dispelling a few myths about short-stacked poker.  I want people to become confident with the idea that they are going to have to get all-in a lot, and that that's not a bad thing.  I feel like a lot of recreational players are scared of 'flipping for their tourney life,' but short-stack play is about a lot more than that and it's very mathematical. It's more complex than any push-fold chart could ever explain."

Parts 4 through 6 are expected to be released soon, so we recommend that you catch up and watch parts 1 through 3 sooner rather than later.  You can check these videos out and all of the others on Tournament Poker Edge without putting a huge dent into your wallet.  You can subscribe to Tournament Poker Edge for just $29.95 per month, $84.95 per quarter, or $299.99 per year, making it one of the best bargains out there.  Check out Tournament Poker Edge today!
