Five Tips for Making the Most of Your Poker Training Site

Many players have improved their game simply by subscribing to poker training sites.  Watching the pros explaining what their mindset is and why they are making certain plays can transform one's game tremendously, and at a much cheaper cost than hiring a coach.

Whether you choose to subscribe to one of our Recommended poker training sites or choose among the many other places to learn from, it is important that you make the most out of what each site has to offer or you are just throwing money down the drain or not optimizing your potential.

Here are five ways you can make the most of your experience with poker training sites.

Watch, watch, watch – This point seems simple enough.  However, we can't stress its importance enough.  Too many poker players subscribe to a poker training site with the best intentions, yet fail to watch important videos.  Before subscribing, they may not realize the amount of time it takes to watch the videos thoroughly.  If you can't put in the time to watch the videos you rightfully paid for, then you obviously aren't getting the most from that training site.

Browse current content – When you are already subscribing to a poker training site for a long period of time, you are probably already used to checking out what's new.  Always see what's available.

Follow instructors – If you watched one video by someone you learned from, make note of the person who produced it.  Chances are this instructor, in the past, released plenty of good content you might be interested in.  When you find someone who speaks your language and can show you the path to improve, it makes sense to see everything else they have to watch.

Choose a topic – Most online training sites have extensive filters.  This is especially important for poker players who have a limited amount of time to watch videos.  Wasting time on topics that might be interesting, but do little to help your game, isn't as valuable as getting straight to the point with finding something you can best learn from.  This isn't to say you should never watch something that is more interesting than valuable, but use your time wisely when choosing a topic for a video or video series.

Choose the best pricing plan – Choosing the best pricing plan might seem like the easiest of tips, but here is where you need to be honest with yourself.  Many sites have tiered plans offering different content at different price points.  Many players opt to choose the most expensive plan so they have access to everything.  However, this plan might not make sense to all players.

Also, most poker training sites offer a substantial discount if you book for multiple months or a year.  We recommend considering the shortest subscription plan, however, even if it's the most expensive per month, simply because you won't be locked in for a long period of time if the site wasn't appropriate for you.

On the flip side, we recommend that you subscribe for a longer period of time to save money if you are happy with your poker training site.  Too many players initially subscribe for the shortest amount of time and forget to upgrade to a more cost-effective plan.
