Helpful Apps for Live Poker Players

Most poker software is geared towards online poker, which is why we mostly cover software related to this arena of poker.  However, there are plenty of programs and apps you should consider using for live poker as well.  Here is a look at some software to consider if you play or plan to play live poker.

If you are traveling somewhere or even just playing live poker locally, it might be difficult for you to know the best ring games and tournaments around.  However, many live poker players get around this with the help of apps, with perhaps the most popular being Poker Atlas.  This app can tell you all the important information about what tournaments are coming up so you don't have to search all the individual casino sites to do it yourself.  Additionally, when looking for ring game action, the app can be helpful as well.

Poker software can also be helpful for you to profile some of your opponents.  While you won't have advanced information that a HUD can provide, you can find out some information from your smartphone or tablet while at the table.  Typically, many tournaments require players to have cards in front of them disclosing their real names.  When this takes place, you can go to a site such as the Hendon Mob or Global Poker Index to see what their results were in the past and what types of events they may have entered.

This becomes especially helpful if you make it beyond the first day in a multi-day tournament since typically you will know your table draw ahead of time.  So before you even sit down, you can know who you are up against.

Other software that is helpful are apps that designed to help you keep track of your bankroll along with your wins and losses.  Some of the best apps include Poker Journal, Poker Income, and the RunGood Poker App.  These apps can show you the games you do the best and worst in and are indispensable for tax purposes as well.  While I do not recommend using these apps if you only play live poker occasionally, if you play many sessions throughout the year, it is worth checking out since they are all reasonably priced.

The last category of poker software that can be useful for live poker players consists of training sites and poker tools.  Watching training videos on poker training sites such as Ivey League or Tournament Poker Edge mostly focus on online play.  However, the majority of the videos also will help you become a better live player as well.  This is also true for more hands-on such as Advanced Poker Training where you are pitted against artificial intelligence.

Poker tools such as odds calculators are equally important.  While most of them make no sense to use while playing, they are helpful for understanding how to approach certain situations.  That being said, you can use them at the table as well, especially if it is an iOS app such as Poker Odds, which also is available on the Apple Watch.  Also, ICM calculators may come in handy if you are on a final table contemplating a deal, but usually the tournament directors will help with any calculations.
