Post Idleminer/Holdem manager

I have purchased idleminer for party poker and i've been saving the hand histories into a new folder then importing them into holdem manager.

Once the information has been imported into HM can i then delete these hand histories because the bulk of them seems to be slowing down my computer?

There is an option in HEM to move processed hand histories to another folder so that you will still have them if you need them.

By moving the processed files the import process won't have to try every time to reimport them and it will be much faster.

That is in "Options" then "Configure Auto Import Folders". You will probably have to delete your existing ones and recreate them with the move option.

I'm a total retard when it comes to computers btw. I've done as you suggested so thanks for that.

If i changed computers at a later date could i transfer the info on hem without having the hand histories or would i need them?

If so could i save them all onto an external harddrive and how much does a reasonable external harddrive cost?

You can always export the hands from your HEM database, then transfer them to the new computer and import them.

I always keep the original HH files in case the database is corrupted or lost somehow. If they start to take up a lot of space, just highlight them all and right click "send to -> compressed folder". This will make a zip file of all the HH files and since they are just plain text they compress very well. Then you delete all the plain text files and you will have more free space.

They are small enough that you could easily put them all on a USB thumb drive. They are so inexpensive and big now it's fairly trivial:

8gb Kingston DataTraveler for $26 shipped. I have this model personally and have had no issues. You can of course find lots of deals on these for even cheaper when they are on sale or have rebates.

If you want an actual external hard drive I recommend the Western Digital Passport series. They are tiny with lots of storage and good warranties.

250gb for $87 shipped.

If your get a new computer you can also just share a folder on your local network and transfer all your files that way.

Could I compress the files in the hm database (or where they're moved to) and then delete the plain text files of these or does hm need these for information?

Once HM has processed the files you can do anything you want with them. Most people delete them, and if you are really worried about losing info you may want to just make a back up of your database from HM once in a while. You could also move them all to a folder that you periodically compress into a zip file and then delete the old hand histories if you want to save them tht way, it won't effect HM at all.

If you want to get really technical with a external hub you can store lots of info and make it available to all you roommates on a wireless network. These are nice for things such as hand history, audio, and video backups. As well as better availability to another computer instead of actually compressing the files you move them here and each computer whether labtop or desktop can access the data.
The really nice thing about hardware these days is plug and play pretty much installing itself. So no worries man it's all in where you put them, and how you place them in a specific folder.
On another note too if you do have a wireless router with an external hub you can set preferences to keep secure information information likes driver licenses, etc. to have on file to verify withdrawl and deposit methods as well.

In summary, External a great for multi-party placement of valuable information that you would like to keep safe and secure.
If your needs are only for personal use then a data stick would be superb and
more economical. So def for personal use take kugr's advice.

New Question: (I think)
If we have Hold Em Manager on 2 computers, how can I transfer my hands from my desk top where I rarely play to my lap top where I play most often so my stats and percentages are correct?

Thanks.
