Most of it is not unfortunately. With most new Macs coming with the ability to run Windows, and most online poker players preferring PCs, the software makers are mostly ignoring the Mac OS now. I know some of this stuff is cross platform, but I don't know which are and which are not.

Hi,

Im looking to either purchase a macbook 13 inch or a std pc. Will these windows integrating programs like VMware fusion let you run Holdem mangager on the mac. If I choose a std pc what requirements should i need? I plan on runing HM, a few tournament programs, use hmk scrips, sharkscope HUD possibly, a good ICM calculater, and a few extra stuff I guess.
Is 2gigs ram necessary? How fast should the processor be to run well with all these?

Is anyone actually using all these things using VMware fusion on a mac?

Love this site. So necessary. Thanks guys.

B

I don't use macs so I can't really comment on those.

For a PC if you are getting one with Windows Vista you definitely want at least 2 gigabytes of RAM. I would recommend getting 3 or even 4 gigs if possible, RAM is cheap these days and the performance increase is easily worth it. If you can manage to get Windows XP 2 gigs is enough for most anything.

For processors I would recommend a multi-core processor, with dual-core probably getting the job done just fine. I think even the lowest speed multi-core processors will be fast enough.

I'm glad to hear you enjoy our site :)

thank you so much for your suggestions. I think the extra RAM might be the way to go.

Still wondering about the mac issue. If getting a mac limits one in the software side, esp now with the ability to run vista on a mac. Im wondering if the mac is powerful enough to run all these programs also.

Yes, be keep in mind that your database should probably be kept small. I use parallels and it works fine, if you get one with a big hard drive I suggest getting the free Boot Camp option installed.

2GB with Windows XP is a must, and if you have Vista, at least 3GB and probably 4GB. Ideally you can get a 100GB hard drive. Make sure you can get a Core-Duo in the 2.16GHz neighborhood as a minimum.

FWIW, PokerTracker 3 will be releasing our Mac version sometime this fall which will run natively on the Mac OSX. We will soon begin our private alpha testing of PT3 for Mac followed by a public beta.

If any Mac users are interested in helping us alpha test PT3 for Mac, shoot me a message with your email address and I will gladly add you to our list to be notified once available. :)

Best regards,

Derek
