Features:
Let's take a look at the features, and the bugs, that come with Omaha Poker Coach.
The manual hand entry seems to work correctly, although it is tough to decipher exactly what it is telling you about the likelihood of your hand being the winner. That sort of information hasn't been of much use in the programs we have worked with in the past anyway because it doesn't take in to account the actions you have seen from your opponents. Bottom full house is probably the best hand if everyone has checked to you on the river. It's probably not the best if three players are already all-in. OPC doesn't know these things and will tell you that you have the best hand a portion of the time in either situation.
The manual hand entry also seemed to overestimate the frequency of some of the possible hands drastically . No matter what my starting hand is, I know that I'm not going to make a straight flush 18% of the time.
With those glitches, we really can't recommend Omaha Poker Coach as a learning tool until it is fixed and the site explains things more clearly or puts up a support forum that is frequented by the people who wrote the program. No support forum is always a bad sign.
The other major feature of Omaha Poker Coach is the auto-read capability. This requires you to use certain skins and settings that may be different from what you usually use or to enable avatars and sit in a different seat than you might usually choose. We could overlook these things if the auto-read feature worked nicely because it would be a wonderful feature for a beginner to help learn the game.
Sadly, the auto-read feature doesn't work correctly either. 30% of the hands on Full Tilt were misread, although we followed the instructions to the best of our ability. Also, the hands on PokerStars didn't show up at all.
We would love to see this program improve and keep up with the changes the sites regularly make to stay current. It has great potential and would be a wonderful learning tool, but for now we prefer the Synapse O8 Calculator and Poker Tracker Omaha.
