Poker Sharpener Full Review

There's a lot out there in terms of poker software when it comes to data analysis and real-time tracking for online poker.  Many of the big solutions offer real-time stats tracking and Heads-Up Displays (HUDs) while also offering filters to analyze the play of yourself and your opponents.  It's out of this mold that Poker Sharpener has been created for the PC.  Here's a look at its hand reporting capabilities:

Installing the software is a very easy exercise.  Simply download the file from the Poker Sharpener website and double click to install.  After the installation is complete, you will be prompted to enter in your license or use the free 30 day trial that imports 350 hands.  Once you’ve made your decision, the program will scan your computer and automatically set up the poker rooms to be configured.  From an installation perspective, Poker Sharpener is very impressive.  Here's a look at its positions analysis:

There's not too much to configure until you've started playing some poker.  If you fire up a few tables, you will see that Poker Sharpener immediately recognizes them and adds a new window panel to display things like pot odds, configuration settings, and villain reads if there are any.

The HUD is unique because it only has a handful of stats to choose from, only allows you to display four stats at a single time, and cannot be customized to appear on specific parts of the table.  The stats given in the HUD aren't the standard VPIP/PFR/AF stats we're used to seeing in other tracking programs, but rather stats like Win% and Pre-Flop Aggression, which seem tailored for sit and gos or tournaments.

The import and data analysis inside the program is straightforward, but doesn't give a ton of information that most players would need in order to analyze their game completely.  In the end, it seems that Poker Sharpener wasn't developed for today's sophisticated online poker player who has been using PokerTracker, Poker Office, or Holdem Manager.  The cost isn't cheap at $69 per year for a program that we highly recommend trying out before purchasing.
