Poker Stove is the standard program for calculating preflop equity. If you want to quote percentages at the poker table, find out how one hand plays against another, or do complicated calculations involving opponents' hand ranges, Poker Stove is a great tool for the job.
Players using Poker Stove must manually input opponents' calling and shoving ranges in order to calculate percentages. Once the ranges are entered, the software is extremely efficient in giving the user an idea of whether or not a particular play was correct. The user can hand-pick specific pre-flop holdings and/or adjust the starting hand requirements to represent the top 10%, 15%, or any percentage they like with the click of a button.
This program is not necessarily recommended for real-time use because a player would have to ignore the game he or she is in when typing in the relevant information. Poker Stove's value comes from exploring its features away from the virtual tables, perhaps as you're reviewing personal hand histories. The information obtained from Poker Stove can be compared to Independent Chip Modeling calculations to help with late stage sit and go play as well as being very useful to cash game players.
