PokerSoftware.com recently brought you a look at BetPot, which fully automates some of the most basic functions of playing online poker on the Ongame and iPoker Networks. The software was created by a Russian developer and automates tasks in both ring games and tournaments. Want to auto-muck your cards? No problem; BetPot can do it. How about opening tables and then placing them on your screen? BetPot can handle that too. The program is still primarily in Beta testing, so it's constantly in flux. Recently, PokerSoftware sat down with the creator of BetPot to learn about the software and future developments.

PokerSoftware: What led to BetPot being created?

BetPot: In the beginning of 2008, I played 12 tables of six-max No Limit Hold'em on the iPoker Network and a tool for multi-tablers seemed necessary to me. I could not find a program to use and was compelled to make my own, BetPot. The free version for the iPoker Network unexpectedly became popular and in the summer of 2008, I released the second version of BetPot, this time for the Ongame Network, and began charging for it.

PokerSoftware: Talk about the difficulties along the way in terms of testing the software and fixing its errors.

BetPot: It's a simple program, but I made the first version while not really knowing how to program. In addition, I was studying programming while holding down a full-time job. A weak level of programming was, and remains, the biggest obstacle for me to overcome.

PokerSoftware: Talk about the development of the Ongame Network version of BetPot, which has a price tag of $30 per year. Why was the decision made to charge for it and what plans do you have for it in the future?

BetPot: When picking the price, I was guided by the cost of Full Tilt Shortcuts ($25). In the future, I plan to provide support for the Ongame version and to make BetPot compatible with other major poker networks.

PokerSoftware: What feedback have you received from customers so far?

BetPot: Russian is my primary language, so I was helped by users of my program who belong to the largest Russian-speaking forum out there, forum.cgm.ru. They have helped me find basic errors and create a stable version of BetPot.

PokerSoftware: What do you see as the future of programs like BetPot?

BetPot: The future of programs like BetPot will ultimately depend on the future of online poker. I think that similar programs will not be banned from being used on online poker rooms, as they do not break their rules.

PokerSoftware: In your opinion, why have these types of programs become so popular?

BetPot: At first sight, it seems that, with programs like BetPot, the player ceases to think for themselves. However, with BetPot, players can take time to digest the information given to them. They’ll have more data to work with in order to make the best possible decision. Therefore, it may become a tool for skillful players.

PokerSoftware: Do you play poker? How did you become involved in the game?

BetPot: I started to play poker at the end of 2005. I began with Limit and then switched to No Limit. Now, I play small heads-up sit and gos for fun. While testing BetPot, I play on the play money tables.
