Those of us blessed with iPhones are lucky that some of the coolest new poker applications are coming out for our breed of mobile smartphone.  With the new iOS, the platform is even more powerful and with the iPhone 4G’s high-definition display, the graphics have never been better.  The newest poker application provides a fresh take on heads-up play, Pokerbot.  Costing $0.99 in the Apple App Store, this game is perfect for those of you who have the bug to play heads-up poker.

Installing the game is very easy.  First, find the application in the App Store through a search for “Pokerbot.”  It has advanced artificial intelligence that will adapt to your skill level, whether you are a beginner or a seasoned player.

A poker player who is also a computer programmer and has played two million hands created the artificial intelligence in Pokerbot.  The author claims that the A.I. of Pokerbot will think about bets, calls, and bluffs just like a real human would.  For those of you who are new to the game, it has a built-in tutorial to teach you how to play poker.  There is also a clear and colorful hand ranking chart in case you need to double check yourself.  Here's a sneak preview:

There are four different speeds of games that you can play, starting with a standard game and going all the way up to “ridiculous” speed.  To add to the “spice” of the game, there’s a feature called “ONETIME,” which works like a cheat.  What it allows you to do is switch one of the cards you don’t like.  For example, if you are trying to make a flush and the river card doesn’t get you there, you can get a new one by using a ONETIME and hopefully hitting it.

There are a ton of achievements and trophies you earn as you play Pokerbot.  Every time you make a specific hand, you get an achievement.  When you get achievements or trophies, you are awarded ONETIMEs, which can really come in handy if you feel like dominating.  The game starts you off as a “Noob” and you move up the ladder when you add money to your bankroll.  The higher in rank you go, the more money you can risk per game.  If you start to lose a lot, you will move back down in the rankings.

The program debuted on June 15th and is 11.1 MB in size.  If you are a poker nut and enjoy playing quick games of heads-up action, this is definitely worth the less-than-a-dollar investment from the App Store.  The games are fun and using the ONETIME feature is a real hoot if you get in the habit of cheating to win.  The A.I. is very straightforward and, frankly, terrible when you are at the Noob level.  After playing a few games, the A.I. isn’t quite as easy to take advantage of and Pokerbot becomes a lot of fun.

The ratings for the game have been very solid, 4.5/5 stars on the ever-difficult rating system within the store.  The game’s graphics aren’t anything special and the controls are pretty easy to use, so overall the program has a nice presentation.  For a buck, you really can’t go wrong with Pokerbot.
