The great thing about having an iPhone, iPod Touch, or iPad is getting access to hundreds of thousands of applications that can potentially make your life better.  There are productivity programs, communication tools, educational applications, and more within the Apple App Store.  Mac poker players have plenty of free applications to check out without any cost or obligation.

One of these free apps is Poker Chip Tracker Lite, which was originally released on July 30th.  The program is available for free and allows users to track their games and send details through e-mail.  Future versions of the program will allow updates to Facebook.  Currently, the program only supports Hold’em and Omaha.  In the future, there are plans to add Stud games as well.

This program lets you create a hand-by-hand blog of your poker game while you are sitting at the table.  It will keep the details of every hand and even take photos of your chip stack or anything else you’d like.  When you are done, you can send your game report to anyone via e-mail.

When you fire up the program, you can look at two sections: "New Session" and "Recent Sessions."  To start a new session, click on “Cash Game” or “Tournament” under the “New Session” title.  Once you pick one, you will be able to see all of the cash game entries and select “Home,” “Edit,” “Send,” or “Add.”

If you hit “Add,” you will be asked to enter a location and many of Las Vegas’ top casinos are already appear.  If you have a different casino or card room to put in, you can type it in manually.  Once you hit the “Set” button, you are asked about the details and can put in Limit, No Limit, Pot Limit, or Spread Limit for Hold’em as well as Omaha Hi and Omaha Hi/Lo.

You then put in the Small Blind, Big Blind, Min Buy-In, and Max Buy-In allowed.  You will see the cash game appear and can let your iPhone take a picture for reference. From here, tapping the “Add” button lets you put in the date and time of the start of your cash game session.  After that, you can input the “Entry Type,” be it buy-in, chip count, or hand details.

If you select “Hand Details,” you can enter a hand against an opponent.  You can alter the opponent’s name as well as your own.  The program allows you to enter the hole cards for each player as well as the cards for the flop, turn, and river.  Finally, there is an area to put in two lines of text to save any notes on the hand you might want to keep for your records. The tournament section works much the same way and is a convenient method to keep track of your recent results.

The free version of this application can be found in the App Store by searching “Poker Chip Tracker Lite.” Users should be aware that small banners appear at the bottom of the application, which seems reasonable considering that it’s free.  If you want an ad-free experience, a paid version of the program is called “Poker Chip Tracker (Full Edition).”  It includes all of the capabilities of Poker Chip Tracker Lite, but uses larger images in game reports and contains no banner ads.  It also allows you to post your game report directly into Facebook.  Future updates for the paid edition of the program will allow for Twitter updates as well.

If you are interested in checking the program out, search for it in the App Store or take a look at its official website.
