Dangers of Pirated Poker Software Torrents

Software piracy has been a problem in the computer industry since it was made commercially available.  People figure it’s a lot easier, more convenient, and lighter on the wallet to copy a program from someone rather than shell out their own money for it.

Now that software is becoming mainstream within the poker industry, the temptation for many is to search random websites in hopes of getting software for free.  But the dangers of such an exercise make it a colossal waste of time and a serious threat to your computer.  Besides, if you want software, you can get it free through PokerSoftware.com.

One reason that trying to pirate poker software is a useless exercise is that fact that 99% of these programs utilize an online registration form that requires a valid license to complete.  Without the license, you won’t be able to use the program.  In addition, let’s say you were able to crack the program and somehow bypass the registration.  In that case, you are still not going to be able to use it for long.  As poker sites update their software, so will all poker software programs.  Therefore, you’ll need to update your software, which would then render your old crack useless and you’ll be back at square one.

Now that we’ve spoken about the futility of trying to pirate poker software, let’s talk about the real dangers.  The first step would be trying to find a torrent, which is incredibly dangerous to begin with.  Simply searching Google could, and probably will, take you to a website that employs malicious scripts that attack your web browser and install harmful scripts on your computer.

Without even touching a torrent and just browsing, you’ve put yourself in serious danger.  Many of these malicious scripts are things called key loggers, which log all of your actions and report them to the person who created the script. If this evil program is running while you access your bank account or a poker site, they’ll have your website address, user name, and password within seconds.

Maybe you know a friend who has dealt with something like that and, if you haven’t, just troll the forums for a few minutes and you’ll find a handful of people screaming for help because their funds were emptied out.  Think about how -EV that decision to pirate poker software became!  To save yourself what probably amounted to $50 or $100 might have cost you tens of thousands of dollars.  Even a donkey can understand the brain fail behind the logic of risking so much to gain so little.

Finally, let’s assume that you get lucky and do not get attacked.  You are still at risk for whatever you might download.  Inside these downloadable files might be undetectable Trojan programs or other malicious software that will do damage to your system in one way or another.  Again, the risks here totally outweigh the rewards and, if you rely on a free anti-virus program, you are still tremendously vulnerable to being attacked.

To conclude, if you are tempted to pirate poker software to save a few bucks, dismiss those thoughts immediately because it’ll be a waste of time and the risks simply don’t outweigh the rewards.  In the long-run, you are just better off buying the program and getting the license so you have lifetime support and never have to worry about your computer or sensitive financial areas being at serious risk.
