In only a decade's time, online poker has morphed from a one-table desktop computer game into a global, 24/7, multi-tabling experience that can be enjoyed from mobile devices with miniature screens. Software developers have more than kept up with the times. In fact, some would say that developers have pushed the envelope and revolutionized the game of online poker on their own.

In this article, we will take a look at some of the poker software applications on the market today that are compatible with the iPhone.

Poker Cruncher, which is similar to PokerStove but designed exclusively for the iPhone, is custom-made for a small mobile screen and can prove invaluable for studying Independent Chip Modeling (ICM) in sit and gos. With this application, you can input a variety of ranges and hand history information along with blind levels, stakes, and more in order to calculate which hands are appropriate to shove all-in with or fold with during pre-flop tournament situations.

The study of ICM has evolved substantially over the past five years to include consideration for opponents' chip stacks and payouts. This application is meant for offline use, but that does not reduce its effectiveness one bit. Its price is $4.99 and it is also available for the iPad, Android, and Mac.

Poker Journal by Michael Golden is another nifty iPhone application that is only 4.5 MB in size, but performs a number of database operations for your online or live poker sessions. Poker Journal basically tells a player how good he or she is at Texas Hold'em or Omaha games in terms of ROI.

The data from online and live sessions can be placed within the application and include date, time, game type, stakes, location, and profit/loss. When the data is crunched, players can filter winning and losing stats by days, places, games, and much more to see how they are doing at particular venues, etc.

The application is currently in Version 2.35, which addresses a previous bug that caused the program to crash when using the iOS 5 operating system. In order to use this program, you will need to purchase it via the iTunes App Store for $12.99.

Poker Track Pro is also available via the iTunes App Store and is a complete statistical tracking software program packed for mobile devices. Currently on Version 6.0, this app is recognized by some in the online poker industry as one of the most complete mobile apps and has a download size of 5.6 MB.

Statistical information can be broken down in charts and graphs to gauge performance, plus there is a real-time casino locator and one-button link to SharkScope. There are also options to access the program's Odds Calculator, Player Tracker, Hand Tracker, and Friend Tracker that let Poker Track Pro customers keep up with a large amount of information.

With this application, you can analyze your profit tendencies, break down individual hand histories, and filter them in a variety of ways. At the time this article was written, Poker Track Pro had over 30 customer ratings in the App Store with 4.5 stars out of a possible 5.0. It can be purchased for a one-time fee of $9.99.

There will undoubtedly be even more poker apps released for iPhones in the months and years to come, as poker players increasingly demand their information to be more compact and manageable from smaller screens.

A few years ago I created an iPhone app that allowed you to enter each hand in a live game and upload that data to analyze hand history. "Alpha for Texas Holdem" is no longer for sale but you can find reviews for it on the Internet. It is/was way ahead of its time and was more than just an app to track your overall winnings, like Poker Journal.
