Tournament Poker Edge Launches Stop and Go Videos

We sat down with Tournament Poker Edge co-founder Derek "Killingbird" Tenbusch to find out what is new at #TPENation.

PokerSoftware:  Good to catch up with you, Derek. What's new at Tournament Poker Edge?

Killingbird:  We just launched a brand new video format that we have dubbed "Stop & Go Videos." The name comes from the fact that the videos are designed to be consumed "on the go" and also that many of the videos are set up such that you can pause them at each major decision point, determine how you would play it, and then restart it to see how the pro played it.

These videos will be released every Wednesday and Saturday and are in addition to our current release schedule, so our members get even more videos for the same price they were already paying. We are really excited to see what our community thinks of them.

PokerSoftware:  Who is producing the first videos and what are the topics?

Killingbird:  The first round of videos is from Andrew "foucault82" Brokos and Matt "theginger45" Hunt. Eventually, all of the pros will be contributing to the new format. Some of the topics that will be covered in upcoming videos include "Playing K-K on an Ace-High Flop", "Light 3betting in Position," and "Stealing/Re-Stealing".

PokerSoftware:  It looks like two of the videos may incorporate a HUD. Is this the case and, if so, how?

Killingbird:  Some of the videos definitely will incorporate a HUD. We've already gotten some "Stop & Go" videos in from our pro Arvydas "Merfinis" Merfeldas and he is really adept and utilizing HUD stats in his decision-making, so I know he will be utilizing a HUD for sure. Since the videos are short, they are hyper-focused on very specific decision-making against very specific opponents.

Obviously, to those who have used poker tracking software, having access to HUD stats in these types of situations can be a huge asset for decision-making. For example, when deciding if you are going to c-bet Q-Q on an ace-high flop, simply knowing the percentage of time that your opponent folds to c-bets can be a massive edge.

PokerSoftware:  What new videos are coming out?

Killingbird:  We have a bunch of cool stuff upcoming. Brokos has a small-stakes hand history review that I think a lot of people will love. James "Rivermen123" Lambert has a live sweat coming out at the end of the month and we also have a new series coming from Casey "bigdogpckt5s" Jarzabek where he reviews his second place finish in the PokerStars $100 Rebuy. We have about three months of videos stockpiled right now, so the hardest part is trying to decide what to release next!

PokerSoftware:  We heard that Tournament Poker Edge had a Las Vegas house once again during the WSOP. How was the experience this year?

Killingbird:  It was different for me this year because I really scaled back my schedule. Most years, I have played 18 to 20 tournaments, mixing in smaller stuff at places like the Wynn.

This year, I decided to focus exclusively on the WSOP. So, I played six NLHE prelim events and the Main Event. But, of course with less volume and bigger fields comes more variance. So, I had gotten used to having a few deep runs each year. This year, I really only had one, with a cash in the Millionaire Maker, so it was a "different" kind of year, but still a lot of fun and it was very productive from a business standpoint for TPE.

PokerSoftware:  Do you utilize any type of software to help track your live action?

Killingbird:  I started using the Poker Journal app on my iPhone last year, but I was primarily using it for cash games, which is really not a big focus for me. Of the poker I play, probably less than 5% of it is cash, so I got out of the habit of using it. That said, if someone is playing a high volume of cash games, I really think it's an essential tool. And frankly, these types of tools are probably great for MTTs as well. But, I'm in a situation where I simply use an Excel spreadsheet to track all of my online MTT results.
