New Jersey Poker Software Revealed with FrickenWacko

We sat down with New Jersey poker player FrickenWacko to get his thoughts on poker software from an everyday poker player's point of view.

PokerSoftware: What poker-related software do you use?

FrickenWacko:  I am currently using PokerTracker 4 and am new to it.  I first installed it and started using it late last year.  I also use PokerStove as a study tool when I'm not playing.

PokerSoftware:  How hard was it to get used to PokerTracker 4?

FrickenWacko:  It probably has not improved my game by too much.  However, the HUD has made it easier for me to categorize players.  I used to get my reads on players solely based off observation.

PokerSoftware:  Do you recommend that all recreational players take advantage of a HUD?

FrickenWacko:  I don't think it is absolutely necessary.  I think it is most useful for a professional player who plays many tables and cannot pay close attention to everything.  A recreational player should probably be more concerned with knowing pot odds, implied odds, and probabilities.

PokerSoftware:  How is your HUD set up?

FrickenWacko:  I just use the PT4 default HUDs for MTT and cash games.

PokerSoftware:  Which stats do you pay more attention to and why?

FrickenWacko:  VPIP is the #1 stat I pay attention to by far.  I will look at my opponents' continuation bet and fold to continuation bet stats.  This is helpful for ranging my opponents and understanding their style of play since I can see how often they are c-betting with nothing or how often my c-bet will work.  I combine that with their PFR to determine if they are only raising pairs or a larger range.  It can help me to exploit a tendency to c-bet too much or check too much.

PokerSoftware:  Overall, what do you get the most out of using PokerTracker 4?

FrickenWacko:  I get more out of using PT4 for tracking my results.

PokerSoftware:  What do you think of the poker software clients available on the New Jersey regulated sites?

FrickenWacko:  I think that the poker clients are behind the times in a big way.  PartyPoker's client is super buggy and 888 Poker and PartyPoker are fairly devoid of features.

PokerSoftware:  Have you played mobile poker?  If so, what are your thoughts?

FrickenWacko:  I have tried to play on the PartyPoker mobile client and after one experience I never tried it again.  I played mobile poker on 888 and WSOP and it was okay.  However, I prefer the ability to play multiple tables.  For me, the only solution is a Windows tablet, so I can play the same as the desktop client.

PokerSoftware:  What do you use PokerStove for?

FrickenWacko:  I use PokerStove very infrequently.  When I do use the software, it is to look at ranges based on a player's VPIP and equity of my hand versus their range.

PokerSoftware:  We love your online screen name.  How did you choose it?

FrickenWacko:  Isn't it obvious?  My online screenname gets me action, even though I play pretty snug.  Although sometimes I will play crazy just to get some advertising value.
