What's in Your HUD with Speck CHAMP

We sat down with German poker player Speck CHAMP to get his thoughts on poker software.  Speck CHAMP is approaching 1,000 tracked online tournament cashes on PocketFives and recently has begun to broadcast many of his online poker sessions on a small delay via Twitch.

PokerSoftware:  What poker software do you use while playing online poker or for post-game analysis?

Speck CHAMP:  I currently use Hold'em Manager 2, the FreePokerDB, and PokerStove.

PokerSoftware:  How important is your Hold'em Manager 2 HUD to your game?

Speck CHAMP:  I'd say I play mostly without looking at stats, but in close spots like 3bet shoving, the HUD becomes very important. I like the "limp" stat a lot because I can see very quickly if someone is a fish or not.  For example, if someone limps who had 0% limp before a hand they are limping in, it is mostly AA/KK.  In this case, I can get out of the way in that spot, which saves me some tournament lives from time to time.

PokerSoftware:  Can you share with us how your Hold'em Manager 2 HUD is set up?

SpeckCHAMP:  Name – Hands - VPIP - Preflop raise - Postflop aggression factor
3bet - Fold to 3bet - 4bet
PFR Early Position - PFR middle position - PFR cut-off, PFR BTN, PFR SB
Steal - Fold to steal - Flop cbet
Cold call - Limp - Tournament adjusted big blinds

PokerSoftware:  When are you using the FreePokerDB?

SpeckCHAMP:  I use the FreePokerDB for Mixed Games, especially Five Card Draw, but also in Badugi, Razz, NL 2-7 Single Draw, Stud, and Stud H/L.

PokerSoftware:  How useful is having a HUD in Mixed Games?  Do you feel it gives you an edge?

SpeckCHAMP:  Having a HUD in Mixed Games is very useful to me.  I guess the best edge you can get by using HUD is in Five Card Draw because if you know the hand ranges of this game, you can easily exploit your opponent in many spots with mathematical perfection.

PokerSoftware:  When are you using PokerStove and how does it help you?

SpeckCHAMP:  I use it mostly for analyzing my game to find more value in different spots.  During the game, I use it in close spots to see if it makes sense whether to call, shove, or fold.

PokerSoftware:  We understand you stream some of your poker sessions on Twitch.  How difficult is it to get set up?

SpeckCHAMP:  It's not that hard.  I watched two YouTube videos that explained the process very well in 30 minutes. The hardest thing is the design because without experience in Photoshop, you need help or watch more videos to learn how to make, for example, a good overlay.

PokerSoftware:  What made you decide to stream?

SpeckCHAMP:  I like getting feedback on my game and finding new players to talk about poker with.  I also feel that I am making better decisions when I have to explain my moves to my audience while playing.
