For many years Unibet Poker was operating smoothly on the Microgaming Poker Network. However, with a fairly large and loyal customer base, Unibet Poker wanted more control of their ecosystem, promotions and other aspects of the poker room.

Due to this, in February 2014, Unibet Poker migrated away from the Microgaming Poker Network to form its own standalone poker network powered by software provider Relax Gaming.

The move has proved to be a success with the online poker room growing significantly since making the move including an increase of 65 percent in the third quarter of 2016 when compared to the third quarter of 2015. For its part, Microgaming Poker Network may have initially suffered due to the departure of Unibet Poker, however, has also been growing throughout this year in a market that just about every other online poker operator is declining in.

While growth is always good, sometimes a good thing can be too much. The original Unibet Poker platform primarily runs on the Adobe Air platform. While this was fine at first, as new features were rolled out and growth took place, some customers were suffering crashes.

Unibet Poker hopes to resolve that with new software dubbed Unibet Poker 2.0, which will be rolled out to all its customers on Thursday, Dec. 1. The industry was first able to get a peek into the software when it was unveiled during the land-based Unibet Open Copehagen in late August.

Not too long later, the online poker operator opened up closed Beta testing for a finite group of players to make sure everything rolled out smoothly. Initially, it was announced that the software would like rollout sometime in October. However, it took just a little longer for the release to take place.

The new software not only runs primarily on a different platform in HTML5, but also features improved graphics, a redesigned hand history replayer, and better integration of missions and challenges in the poker client on desktops, smartphones, and tablets.

Additionally, those on handheld devices will now be able to multitable. Personally I find it difficult to multitable on any site on my iPhone, but do once in a while try to ‘almost successfully’ play two or more tables from my iPad. Players more adept than me, should enjoy this feature, while most of the time I personally will just stick to one table like I did in the past.

Unibet is understandably excited about rolling out the new client and believes it is one of the keys to securing continued growth next year and further down the road.

Unibet Head of Poker Andrew West shared in a press release that, "Unibet Poker 2.0 was built from the ground up and designed to provide us with a foundation upon which we can seamlessly add in-game features to continuously provide the best experience possible for all of our players. We’re looking forward to collecting feedback on the new software and hope that our players will see the potential for 2017 and beyond."
