With the rise of Apple, more and more homes are equipped with iMacs,iPads, MacBooks and Mac Pros. These amazing computers run smoothly, offer amazing graphics and come with a rich user experience that people are willing to pay a premium for. With more people enjoying Macs in their home, there’s also been a rise with Mac Poker Software, with poker sites and third party application developers filling the need for players that want to play poker on a Mac.
In this guide, we’ll discuss the poker rooms that support the Mac OS X operating system environment and also talk about some of the third party applications that you should be investing your time with.

Poker Rooms

PokerStars (Review)

PokerStars is the world’s biggest poker site and offers up the most amounts of games anywhere on the internet. The Mac Client is completely native to Mac OS X, so what you will do is download a standard DMZ file and install it like any other application on your computer. From there you’ll be ready to play and for those of you first making a visit to PokerStars, you’ll be granted a 100% bonus up to $600. Whether you decide to play in cash games or in the weekly Sunday Millions tournament, there’s tons of action here for Mac poker players.

Bwin (Review)

One of the bigger European sites is bwin which does not accept players from the United States. This site offers up what we are told are very juicy tables. There are two ways to play here, through a full version downloadable software client for Mac, or though an in-browser web-play option. Obviously, if you have your main Mac ready, you should use the full version software. However, being able to play on the road from any web browser is a pretty cool backup plan to have.

PartyPoker (Review)

The good news is that PartyPoker does have a way for Mac players to play but the only negative with it is that it’s a web-version only. Although it’s not a downloadable client, the web-option is actually really impressive and worth checking out. It’s darn near the exact same experience as the downloadable version for Windows. PartyPoker offers us a 100% welcome bonus up to $100 as well as one of the best rewards systems for frequent play online.

Mac Poker Software

PokerTracker 4 (Review)

PokerTracker 4 is a hand history tracking utility that will be the single most important piece of software you ever buy as a poker player.Whether you play recreationally, part-time or are a seasoned professional, PokerTracker 4 (PT4) is a tool that will help you track your play, see your stats and be able to scout your opponents at the tables. Amazingly, PT4 offers up a free 60 day trial for the Mac edition of their software which makes it an absolute no brainer to check out. If you are satisfied, the cost of the program is just $44.99 for the micro stakes edition and $89.99 for the full version to track Hold’em games. If you want to track both Omaha and Hold’em games, the price is $74.98 for the micro stakes edition and $144.98 for the full version (tracks all stakes levels).
The benefits of getting PokerTracker 4 could take up an entire article by itself and many people have dedicated a lot of time to making it one of the best pieces of software possible. From tracking hands, to reporting stats, to allowing you to build your own stats there’s an almost endless list of tasks you can ask from the program that can help you improve your play. Last and certainly not least is the HUD (Heads Up Display) which displays real-time stats on the tables of your Mac computer at online poker tables. When you are playing, PT4 will track the hands and update an overlay filled with opponents’ stats as you play each hand. That way you can track their tendencies and make informed plays against them. Needless to say, with all the benefits that this  program can provide, no matter what poker room you play at, PT4 is an awesome piece of Mac poker software.

Poker CoPilot (Review)

This is PT4’s main competitor within the Mac poker world, as it supports the top poker rooms and is a native Mac OS X program. It comes with a free 30 day trial and also runs stat reports, hand tracking and use of a HUD. It doesn’t have the depth that PokerTracker 4 has but for those of you that want to shop around, it’s definitely worth a look to see which one you like more.

BlazingStars

For a lot of players, having a tool of hotkeys is very important for multi-tabling. Right now the main set of tools, TableNinja, does not have a Mac version. However, there is a free version that is open-source code called BlazingStars that is compatible with Mac OS X and works with PokerStars. It has a set of tools that helps you hotkey your way at the tables for a more efficient poker experience. Since this one is completely free, it’s worth checking out if you have the time.

Conclusions

If you plan to use Mac Poker Software, there are plenty of choices for you to select from for an amazing experience. Between many of the sites that have downloadable clients and one of the two main hand history tracking utilities designed for Mac OS X, you can really have just about the same experience as the Windows folks.
