The Poker Timer Synopsis

The Poker Timer is a basic piece of tournament management software. It’s free, easy to use, and will make your home games run much more smoothly. The software is sleek and runs right off of your desktop once downloaded. There are dozens of similar programs and although The Poker Timer doesn’t set itself above the competition, you can’t really go wrong using it. After all, it’s free.

The Poker Timer Full Review

For a home tournament management system, what you’re primarily looking for is a program that’s easy to use and The Poker Timer has that in spades. Among the display features are a tournament clock, current and upcoming blind levels, number of players, total prize pool, and payout structure.

There are three game choices: Home Game, Turbo, and Championship. They’re basically just shell tournaments and the majority of the software is customizable from within any one of these templates. You can change the blind levels, blind increases, starting stacks, number of players, and payouts.

If there’s a downside to The Poker Timer, it’s that there doesn’t appear to be an option to change the number of positions paid (the default is five). In reality, this is hardly a requirement for a home game – the difficulty in running a game is keeping the tournament moving smoothly given the blinds and structure – so it’s not a huge gripe. It would, however, be a worthwhile extra feature if it worked properly. Here are two screen shots of what you can expect:

Considering that it’s completely free to download and use, we see no downside. If you’re in the market for tournament management software, be sure to give The Poker Timer a try.

Bootzilla's Review of The Poker Timer

May, 21, 2010

I have used The Poker Timer for a home tourney with my mates. Really happy with this new comer. The preset tournaments are good and simple to edit if you want to mix it up a little. It would be great if you could save your own structures so you can have them all the time. The prise pool calculation is great too. Takes the head scratching out of the night when you have had a couple of beers.Visually it is one of the more sexy timers out there and super easy to use. Some others that I have used are a little clunky. Over all a great app, and best of all it free! Looking forward to seeing what the premium edition is going to be.
