Carbon Poker Adds Mac Poker Client

On the first of the month, Carbon Poker, a USA-friendly site on the Merge Gaming Network, added a Mac poker client. This isn’t some web-based version that barely has any features. No way! Instead, the Merge Gaming Network’s Mac software is fully downloadable, meaning that it comes with all of the features that Windows players can take advantage of.

In order to download the new Carbon Poker software, which is fresh off of a private beta, download install.dmg from the room’s website. On our Mac, Carbon Poker’s website automatically recognized our computer and offered up install.dmg, which is a 19.3 MB file that took us about half a minute to download on a broadband connection. Once it’s done downloading, open it up.

One of the first steps after opening the .dmg file will be to agree to the Terms and Conditions of Carbon Poker. Then, you’ll drag the Carbon Poker icon into the Applications folder and open it. If you’re prompted for a security confirmation, go ahead and approve it. Then, log into Carbon Poker and start opening tables.

If you need to create a new account, you can do so from within the Mac software. You’ll need to pick a user name and password and enter your name, mailing address, and e-mail. When we tried to sign up, we had a few setbacks and found the software to be a little bit buggy. However, you can open up to 18 non-tournament tables at a time and USA players are more than welcome.

The Carbon Poker interface is incredibly straightforward. It lacks the flair of avatars that sites like Full Tilt Poker have, which lets poker take center stage. A mini view is available, although the default text in the Mac client was considerably difficult to read. You can tile every table with one click and Bad Beat Jackpot tables are available if you want to try to strike it rich.

Among those who were enthusiastic about the new Mac software offered by Carbon Poker was the site’s Head of Acquisition, Atil Singh. The Carbon Poker representative told PokerSoftware.com, “I’m excited to finally offer our existing and new players the ability to play on a Mac. We have received a lot of feedback from our current player base requesting Carbon Poker to support Mac and we are ready to unveil it. Players are going to notice Version 5.0 running much smoother than in the past for a more enjoyable gaming experience.”

According to PokerScout.com, the Merge Gaming Network is the 23rd largest worldwide in terms of real money ring game traffic with a seven-day running average of 850 cash game players. Its traffic is on par with that found on Everest Poker and the Cake Poker Network.

Carbon Poker is geared towards lower limit players. Although the lobby included No Limit Hold’em ring games with limits as high as $300/$600, the richest game running was $30/$60. Nevertheless, if you’re a micro- or low-stakes player, Carbon Poker is ideal.

Visit CarbonPoker now and take the Mac client for a test drive.
