Poker PushBot Mobile App Launched

The Poker PushBot app for mobile devices brings the popular calculator to your iPhone, iPod Touch, or iPad.  The application allows players to evaluate when the time is right to fold or move all-in during a tournament.  Using the theories that make tournament poker play profitable, the math-based system provided by Poker Pushbot assists players with shoving decisions.  While it doesn’t make the actions for you, it is a useful poker calculator to use for quick reference on when to get it in or when to let it go:


 
The application is simple to use and provides a four-step process to give you an immediate calculation of the mathematically correct decisions when you are the first player to enter a pot.  The program begins by allowing you to set up the criteria of the hand, including the number of players left to act behind you.  Just slide the bar to the left or right to determine the appropriate number.

Next, the app will calculate your Effective M, the statistic made popular by the “Harrington on Hold’em” series of poker strategy books written by Dan Harrington.  Your Effective M is calculated by entering your stack size, the amount of the big blind and the ante, and the number of players at the table.

Next, estimate your opponents’ calling ranges.  This allows you to select what your opponents might call your shove with based on your assessment of their play.  You can slide the scale from the top 3% of calling hands down.  If you’re curious to find out how the hands are evaluated, just touch the information button on the bottom of the app and in it you will find a chart that spells out what range of hands falls into the various percentages to help you assess this statistic with more accuracy.

Finally, select your hole cards by moving the slider left or right and selecting whether your hand is suited or offsuit.  Once all of the information is selected, push “Calculate” and the program immediately shows whether it’s mathematically correct to fold or push.
 
The Poker PushBot app is currently compatible with the iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad.  It requires iOS 4.2 or later and can be purchased through the iTunes Store for just $4.99.

While the tool itself accomplishes what it sets out to do, it is still hand review tool and not something that can be used at the table.  Since casinos disallow the use of mobile devices at live table play, the application could only be used after a hand was completed.  However, it is an excellent tool to reference whether a play was correct or incorrect and to learn from when the situation presents itself the very next time.
