AHK QuickNotes Makes Note Taking More Efficient

Taking efficient notes is one of the keys to success as you climb the ranks of whatever game you might play. Although it might not be too critical at games like micro-stakes sit and gos, it’s considered vital at small and mid-stakes cash games.  Being able to have an efficient note system can mean money in your pocket when it comes time to making critical decisions in a hand.

Enter a program called AHK QuickNotes, which boasts that it makes note taking with Holdem Manager more efficient.  The program will find Holdem Manager and Full Tilt Poker notes windows, move them to a specific location, and resize them to your desired width and height.  The program will determine the stakes you are playing, the seat limit for the table, and automatically prefix notes with an abbreviated tag.  If you have battled against a player at a different stakes game before, the script will separate the old note from the new one by inserting a “---“ and a new line.

Players can still manually place a tag into the notes edit box by clicking on the notes edit field, hovering the mouse over the table where the player you want to take a note on is at, and pressing ALT-1.  The script will also put a timestamp in front of every new note.  There’s also a keyboard redirect command that when the Holdem Manager notes window is present, all keyboard input will be directed to the notes edit box.  This prevents you from being interrupted while writing a note when poker tables pop up.

Currently, AHK QuickNotes is compatible with the Holdem Manager Replayer, Full Tilt Poker, PartyPoker, and PokerStars hand histories.  The program only works with cash game hands and cannot automatically put tags and timestamps inside Full Tilt notes windows.  It does not work with multiple notes windows and only recognizes No Limit Hold’em games.

The script was programmed to work in an AHK environment, meaning that players will need to have AutoHotKey installed on their Windows system in order for it to work.  The program environment is completely free, as is the script, which is posted on the TwoPlusTwo forums.

AHK scripts are nothing new in poker, as many shortcut programs originally started as singular AHK scripts.  Many of them were bundled together into a program such as Table Ninja, which now works at Full Tilt Poker and PokerStars.  AHK is an open-source programming code, meaning anyone can develop scripts for the runtime environment without having to pay any royalties or fees.

There is no website or official support for the script, but the last post in the forum thread was only days old at the time of this article being written.  The creator of the program is asking for people to test it out, report any bugs, and post any suggestions they might have.
