Ace Poker Solutions Knock the Table Volume 3 Released

The newest edition of Ace Poker Solutions’ Knock the Table was released in recent days. If you’re not familiar with Knock the Table, it’s a monthly periodical e-mailed to Ace Poker Solutions customers that focuses on winning techniques, tools, and strategies to help your poker game grow leaps and bounds. It’s so high quality that PokerSoftware.com contributes a software review to it every month.

Derric “SixPeppers” Haynie kicked off this month’s Knock the Table by writing about “Hidden EV Explored.”  If you have no idea what the term hidden EV means (don’t worry, we didn’t either), Hayne explains that it refers to a “not so obvious way to get the maximum value out of a hand.”

To Hayne, maximizing hidden EV is all about mixing up your play: “Against players who never develop a dynamic with you, or people that will not adjust to such a strategy, taking a different line to develop some hidden EV can often be the best choice as well as make you a very tough opponent to play against.”

Jacob “Threads13” Hoke discussed playing small and medium pairs in early position in another Knock the Table article. The piece, which is flush with math, explains, “Deciding how and when to open a pot with medium and small pocket pairs is a frequently discussed topic among poker players. The hands are flexible holdings that can get value from several different avenues.”

John “Nagarjuna” Anhalt, the creator of Leak Buster, discussed checking and calling with middle or bottom pair. The article encourages readers to ask themselves a series of questions when deciding what to do with these hands based on factors like how coordinated the board is, how aggressive opponents are, the number of backdoor outs a player has, and the relative strength or weakness, skill-wise, of other players at the table.

Anhalt concluded by saying, “Be willing to forfeit equity in spots when you’re on the defensive with a marginal hand and you’ll find more long-term success.” Cheers to that!

PocketFives.com, which operates PocketFives Training, printed an article in Knock the Table focusing on the U.S. Department of Justice recently calling Full Tilt Poker a Ponzi scheme. The Feds singled out Full Tilt’s Howard Lederer, Chris Ferguson, and Rafe Furst and accused the company of paying out over $440 million to pros and executives over the last four years, all the while owing nearly $400 million to players.

Apparently, the deception at Full Tilt Poker could have come from the highest ranks. According to PocketFives.com and the DOJ filing, “In or about March 2008, [Ray Bitar and Howard Lederer] advised a Full Tilt Poker employee that Full Tilt Poker could represent to players that Full Tilt Poker kept all of its player funds in segregated accounts and that funds would be available for withdrawal by players at all times.”

The Alderney Gambling Control Commission temporarily suspended Full Tilt’s gaming license in June, two months after the DOJ charged Bitar and Nelson Burtnick with violating the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act and operating an illegal gambling business, among other crimes.
