My Experience with Stud Indicator

I have been investing some time getting back to my poker playing roots. In my younger days before the No Limit Texas Hold'em boom, I logged in many hours in Atlantic City casinos playing Stud cash games. While my bankroll was rather modest back then, I almost always found a good way to make a small profit at the end of the majority of my sessions and also had fun.

Time moves on, and along with the No Limit Hold'em and online poker booms, I found myself moving where the action was. Lately, I have been enjoying more Stud, Stud H/L, and Razz cash games, which led me on a deep search of any software that could help my learning curve and provide me useful information on my myself and my opponents.

I was looking for software that was reliable, could track my Stud cash games, and provide a flexible HUD. PokerTracker 1 had a good Stud version that is no longer supported, which would have been perfect for my needs. I did, however, find that Stud Indicator, which includes a HUD and an in-game poker odds calculator, could be a helpful tool.

The software includes a HUD that presents a few different interchangeable, useful stats to include and can be organized by session or date. I have found it helpful when just joining a table to see how other players have played in the past. I have found spots where I would have normally called where I now fold or vice-versa.

The program's poker calculator is much more useful than I thought it would be. For Stud and Stud H/L games, I am getting the potential odds of my hand winning, what the pot odds currently are, and whether my hand is classified as strong, medium, or weak. I am also seeing the odds on my hand improving. The extra information from the poker calculator has already prevented me from making mathematical mistakes.

For Razz, you are not getting all of the same information, as it works off a point system. The point system is a mathematical way of making sure you are not constantly overplaying or underplaying your hands. I am still playing around with the point system, but it has allowed me to look at my play more methodically while simultaneously taking into account how my opponents play using information in the HUD.

I found in the past that when multi-tabling Stud games, I may miss the cards that my opponents exposed before folding their hands, which is very important to keep track of. This led me to play fewer tables so I could focus on not losing this free information. Stud Indicator opened me up to be able to play more tables again since the software keeps track of the mucked cards for me.

The one downside to the software is its statistical tracking. Although it is useful to be able to look at general stats for yourself and your opponents, there is no in-depth view of any historical information, such as data broken out by date and stakes. There is also no user interface to be able to drill down your own statistics more. However, that will not stop me from using Holdem Indicator because of all of the other advantages the software has that have more than paid back its price for me.
