Log Sessions Accurately with Stars Session Timer

If you are a serious poker player who grinds cash games and sit and gos, knowing exactly how much time you have invested into your sessions is very important when determining your dollar per hour rate.  Having accurate statistics over a large sample size will give you everything you need to calculate a very close estimate as to what you can expect to make playing poker.  For those who do not use poker tracking software like PokerTracker and Holdem Manager, you are probably tracking your statistics manually, which can be very tedious.

For those of you who do use poker tracking software, you probably already know that most poker tracking software can inaccurately report exact playing times over short intervals.  If you are a player who likes to take short breaks between sessions, then the poker tracking software you are using will most likely count the short break time as time spent at the table because not enough time has passed for the software to realize that you have ended one session and started another.  Thanks to a very simple AutoHotKey (AHK) script, you can very easily track exactly how much time you spend on each and every session.

Stars Session Timer is a free, open-source AHK script that starts a timer every time you open a table on PokerStars and stops it when you close your tables.  The display can fit in one of the corners of your screen, where it will not be in the way.  After you end your session, simply look at the timer and you will instantly see how long your session lasted.  Here's a sneak peak:

2) Copy and paste the script into a new .ahk file
3) Double click the AHK icon to launch the program
4) You do not need to do any customization unless you wish to use it on sites other than PokerStars

Stars Session Timer helps you track your time spent at the tables more accurately.  Poker tracking software does a great job at providing us with just about any statistic imaginable, but there are just too many variables involved for any software to determine to the second exactly how much time we spend on each of our sessions.  It’s very easy to lose track of time and play much longer than we intend to.  Whatever the case, Stars Session Timer is a great tool for keeping tabs on time spent at the table.
