In this month's edition of the PokerSoftware.com Podcast, we welcome Taylor “Green Plastic” Caby from CardRunners.  Caby is a high-stakes poker pro known for his heads-up skills and is a founding member of the popular poker training site.

PokerSoftware.com Podcast host Sean Gibson asked Caby what factors can be attributed to the success of CardRunners.  Caby replied that the site is always trying to get the best possible instructors.  Although CardRunners has big shot pros making videos, the site has supplemented those instructors with players at the mid- and small-stakes levels for a considerable amount of variety.  A well-rounded cast is one of the biggest factors in CardRunners’ success.

Gibson then asked what is the best way for a beginning poker player looking to improve to start at CardRunners.  Caby said that it depends on what they are playing.  Most people are in small-stakes tournaments or cash games and if that is the case, they should find an instructor that is playing the same games in the videos.

Caby said that the most important tool for any serious player is a tracking program such as Holdem Manager and PokerTracker.  The bigger question of using a Heads-Up Display (HUD) was then discussed.  Caby revealed that he doesn't depend on them too much because he has played for so long.  If he were just getting started, he would definitely be using an HUD even in heads-up games.  As far as using something like Table Ninja, he thinks that program is ideal for grinding six tables or more.

For what's in store at CardRunners, Caby mentioned that the new version of the site is up, which is cleaner and more efficient.  In addition, a new video player was released and people can use it to reference a time stamp and post a question, making follow-ups a lot more effective.

In the world of poker software, Gibson talked about the recent security issue at the CEREUS Network sites UB.com and Absolute Poker that allowed people on the same unsecured network to see your login, password, and hole cards.  Thanks to the quick efforts of the developers at CEREUS, the issue has been resolved and the site is using secure OpenSSL technology.

In addition, Table Ninja released the commercial version of TableNinjaFT for Full Tilt Poker, which has a free 30-day trial.  You can find Table Ninja and TableNinjaFT in Holdem Manager.

There are also some great World Series of Poker (WSOP) WSOP Main Event promotions going on.  Full Tilt Poker has a ton of ways to get in, having already awarded over 600 Main Event seats.  PartyPoker has an amazing promotion called WSOP for Life, which will pay your entry for the next 20 years.
